How to Choose the Right Industrial Dehumidifier

Making the wrong choice costs time and money. Follow our 6-step guide to select the perfect dehumidifier for your specific application and avoid costly mistakes.

1. Calculate Your Space Volume

Measure length × width × height of the area to be dehumidified. Include adjoining spaces if they’re connected.

💡Pro Tip:

Add 20% to your calculation for areas with high air circulation or multiple openings.

Example: 20m × 15m × 4m = 1,200m³ space

2. Consider Operating Temperature

Different models perform optimally at different temperature ranges. Match the dehumidifier to your environment.

💡Pro Tip:

For cold environments below 10°C, choose models with hot gas defrost systems.

Standard: 5-35°C, Low-temp: -10-25°C

3. Determine if the room is airtight

Room ventilation will bring extra moisture from outside into the room, causing the humidity in the room to be unstable and affecting the dehumidification effect.

💡Pro Tip:

If the room isn’t airtight, reduce infiltration—seal gaps, add vestibules/air curtains, and keep slight positive pressure (+5–12 Pa).

Target +5–12 Pa pressurization; at loading docks, add air curtains (can cut doorway infiltration ~60–80%)

4. Determine Current Humidity Levels

Measure existing humidity with a hygrometer. Higher humidity requires more capacity for faster moisture removal.

💡Pro Tip:

Most industrial applications require 40-60% RH for optimal conditions.

80% RH → 50% RH requires higher capacity initially

5. Assess Power Requirements

Check available electrical supply (voltage, phase, amperage). Ensure adequate power capacity for continuous operation.

💡Pro Tip:

Consider power consumption costs - higher efficiency units save money long-term.

Single phase: 220V, Three phase: 380V

6. Evaluate Installation Location

Consider drainage options, ventilation requirements, noise restrictions, and accessibility for maintenance.

Plan for condensate disposal - gravity drain is most reliable for continuous operation.

Cabinets use smooth, cleanable finishes; coils drain to a sloped drain pan and condensate is routed via trapped drain lines to prevent standing water. Design follows industry guidance that drain pans be sloped ≥ 10 mm/m (1/8 in/ft) toward the outlet to reduce microbial growth.

 For corrosive environments (natatoriums, coastal sites), we offer e-coated coils (full-immersion electro-deposition) and 304/316L stainless-steel cabinetry options.

At lower entering air temperature or humidity, latent capacity decreases relative to rating conditions; for cold rooms we use hot-gas (bypass) or reverse-cycle four-way-valve defrost, and electric defrost where appropriate. Defrost entry/exit can be time- and/or temperature-based and is field-adjustable to suit the application.

We rate industrial dehumidifier capacity at 30 °C/80% RH in a controlled psychrometric chamber (still-air). AHAM-style ratings at 26.7 °C/60% RH can be provided for comparison on request.
